These recent paintings continue to explore my experience of the invisible labour of care-giving. i use the language of abstract expressionism (renowned for its machismo and high cultural value) and playfully apply a contemporary feminist lens.

I use colour, hidden layers, transparency, erasure and gestural marks to celebrate the mundane, repetitive, messy, intimate, complex and often invisible work of family life.
I explore the visual language of abstract expressionism because of it’s association with machismo and it’s high cultural value, and I try to playfully apply a contemporary feminist lens. Emptying the dishwasher, sorting PE kits, organising childcare, remembering birthdays, writing shopping lists, wiping hands, bums, surfaces, tears, aren’t the usual preoccupations of Fine Art, but they deserve to be. I try to assert the hidden value and beauty of these physical, emotional and cognitive loads which underpin our lives and economies.
